The gap between immunization rates in minority and white populations has been narrowed, but there are still disparities among many racial, ethnic, and underserved populations. The data graph below shows immunization coverage among California’s children by race/ethnicity.
California Kindergarten Immunization Rates by Race
In 2007, the percent of kindergarten students at 24 months of age with the 4:3:1 vaccine series was 76.6+4.2% among white children, 75.0+2.4% among Hispanic children, 72.0+8.4% among African American children, and 81.8+6.5% among Asian children. The Kindergarten Retrospective Survey is one of the only sources of information on subpopulations of African American and Asian children and data suggest a serious and persistent disparity in immunization coverage among African American children.
