Glossary-2014 AP Report
This glossary defines key terms shown on the school, district, county, and state-level 2014 AP Report. The terms described below are listed in the order in which they appear in the headings.
Background
The California Department of Education (CDE) receives student-level AP data from the College Board. 2014 was the first year that AP data were merged with student-level data in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). These data were aggregated to produce school, district, county, and state-level reports.
The AP Report includes only California public schools that had: (1) at least one student who took an AP exam, or (2) zero students who took an AP exam but had enrollment in grades nine, ten, eleven, and/or twelve. The enrollment information was based on data submitted by local educational agencies (LEAs) and maintained in the CALPADS.
The AP Report focuses on all AP exams taken at a particular school, without regard to the subject area. Because students may take multiple AP exams in different subject areas, the combined number of exams with scores 1 through 5 (shown in the last five columns of the report) may not be equal to the number of exam takers.
Scores for schools that had fewer than 11 students taking the AP are not shown on the AP Report in order to preserve the anonymity of the students.
AP scores range from 1 to 5 points.
AP Report
Enrollment 9—12
Enrollment was based on the number of students reported as enrolled in grades nine, ten, eleven, and/or twelve by LEAs in CALPADS as of Fall Census Day in October 2013. (Note: The enrollment does not include "ungraded" students.)
Number Tested
This item reflects the number of students with AP exam scores as reported by the College Board. (Note: The school name inputted by the student on the AP exam was used by the College Board to generate the academic institution [AI] code. The CDE used the AI code and the school name to identify the school’s county-district-school [CDS] code in order to link the students' AP scores to the appropriate schools.)
